Bio

I’m Kerry Hutchinson (he/him), based in SW England and running my own Source Connect Studio, using Punch and Roll. I’m a trained actor and voice actor, and ex-Military veteran.

I went to a British Boarding school then studied German at University after which I worked for Secret England in West Germany and Berlin - - - but if I told you what I did- I’d have to shoot you – or maybe just get you to sign an NDA!!

I then joined the military and did 4 x Combat Tours with the US Marine Corps as an attached British Infantry Officer, leading a small specialist team. Afghanistan was traumatic. My muted emotions from Boarding School days, enabled me to cope with what I experienced there - by just not talking about it.
When I finally finished my tours of duty in Afghanistan in 2014, I realised I was emotionally numb. I remember my wife asking me ‘Why do you love me?” – and I couldn’t explain – I didn’t have the emotional vocabulary to explain why. But thanks to my loving wife, she helped me to reconnect with my emotions so that I’m now engaged, fluent, and present.

In terms of training, I became a student of the audiobook industry, studying the craft through workshops with Dian Perry, PJ Ochlan, Jennifer Aquino and Jesse Bickford.
I received a VOX Nomination for Best Male Audiobook Narrator about 7 months ago. So something’s clearly working 

When not in the booth, I’m a volunteer driver for civilian convoys taking medical aid into Ukraine. I’ve also just finished my debut suspense novel, and am about to start pitching to US and UK literary agents.

That process of writing has given me a greater understanding of what makes a book come alive, in terms of story arc, plot and character development. My clandestine and military experience does mean I understand the heat, the blood and sand and the tensions, and I can bring this experience to audiobook narrations of that genre. I’ve been trusted just under 20 times to deliver fiction and non-fiction.

I bring to the microphone everything I am now, and I prioritise the emotional arcs and connections. And whilst I try to keep fit, I’m outstandingly rubbish at sticking to diets.

Oh – and I was a very young Duty Officer in Berlin when Rudolf Hess, Hitler’s deputy, was found dead in Spandau Prison in Berlin, in1987 – and there’s certainly a story there!
