I trained at The Guildhall School of Music and Drama graduating in 1969 and spent the first fifteen years of my working life as a professional actor mainly in theatre with bits of TV, Radio and Film thrown in for good measure - I did everything. Shakespeare, Ibsen, Chekov, Alan Aykbourn, Agatha Christie, Pinter, Brecht, Feydeau, Oscar Wilde, Noel Coward - Comedy, tragedy. musicals, panto, thrillers, who-dun-its and so on. Fifteen glorious years of learning, working and creating in theatres all over the UK including in the West End.
In the early 1980s I moved into television, initially as a presenter and continuity announcer for ITV in the Midlands, eventually stepping behind the camera to become a documentary producer. At the same time, I managed to build a parallel career as a freelance voice actor - which turned out, to be a very smart move. It was during this period that I recorded by first series of audiobooks (thankfully no longer available). After taking redundancy from ITV in 2004 I briefly returned to my roots as an actor, theatre producer and director and freelance video director; I taught Audio and Television Acting at Lichfield Theatre, Trent College and was Head of Learning at Derby Playhouse for two years before returning to voice work full time.
Though I have voiced all kinds of projects, from Dr Who episodes to Museum guides, since 2014 the majority of my voice work is in audiobooks and all but four of my audiobooks have been recorded in my personal professional recording space. I have narrated for Harper Audio, Penguin Random House and Audible Studios in both the US and the UK; for Blackstone Audio, Disney Publications, Macmillan Audio, Brilliance Audiobooks, Hachette, Dreamscape, Findaway, and Spoken Realms in the US; and for UK imprints including Bonnier, Rosa, Lamplight Audio, Whole Story Audiobooks, Ukemi Audiobooks and Quercus. I also produce and direct audiobooks independently and in association with Raconteurs Audio.

As an Audiobook narrator coach, director and mentor, I am regularly involved with Voiceover Kickstart – and have been ‘A Professional Ear’ with The Audiobook Publishers’ Association. I coach and direct experienced narrators and actors, and work with authors who are narrating their own books.
